A Hearing Assessment: the First Step on Your Better Hearing Journey

A 2017 study at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill drew strong correlations between hearing loss and the early onset of dementia and cognitive issues contributing to Alzheimer’s. In addition, many people who struggle with hearing loss experience an irritating ringing or buzzing sound known as tinnitus, which leads to increased stress, anxiety and sleep loss, additional contributors to cognitive decline.
A hearing assessment by a professional audiologist is the first step in the process of identifying the cause and severity of your condition so we can design a treatment plan that meets your specific needs. If you or a loved one are experiencing any type of hearing challenges, your first step on your journey to better hearing is to schedule a hearing assessment in your Virginia Highlands home.

Virginia Highlands, GA Has Access to Advanced Hearing Aid Technology

When you think of hearing aids, those bulky, ugly and frustrating contraptions of your parents or grandparents probably come to mind. Just like all forms of modern technology, today’s hearing aids are much more advanced than they were a few decades ago.

In addition to being lighter weight, smaller and more discrete to wear, modern hearing aids are incredibly powerful with the capacity to provide noise reduction and fantastic clarity. An added advantage of today’s technology is the capacity to directly link your hearing aids to digital devices like your smartphone, television or computer for an enhanced hearing experience.

About Decatur, GA

Decatur is a city in, and the county seat of, DeKalb County, Georgia, which is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. With a population of 24,928 in the 2020 census, the municipality is sometimes assumed to be larger since multiple ZIP Codes in unincorporated DeKalb County bear Decatur as the address. The city is served by three MARTA rail stations (Decatur, East Lake, and Avondale). The city is located approximately 5 miles (8.0 km) northeast of Downtown Atlanta and shares its western border with both the city of Atlanta (the Kirkwood and Lake Claire neighborhoods) and unincorporated DeKalb County. The Druid Hills neighborhood is to the northwest of Decatur. The unofficial motto of Decatur used by some residents is "Everything is Greater in Decatur." == History == === Early history === Prior to European settlement, the Decatur area was largely forested (a remnant of old-growth forest near Decatur is preserved as Fernbank Forest). Decatur was established at the intersection of two Native American trails: the Sandtown, which led east from the Chattahoochee River at Utoy Creek, and the Shallowford, which follows today's Clairmont Road, and eventually crossed near Roswell. A site for the DeKalb County courthouse was designated in 1822 in what would become downtown Decatur; the city of Decatur was incorporated on December 10, 1823. It was named for United States Navy Commodore Stephen Decatur. Shallowford Road, which led to the Shallow Ford, has been renamed Clairmont Avenue, probably because it does not go to, from or past any place called Clairmont.
