Frequently Asked Questions

What is Audiology on Call?

Audiology on Call was founded in 2020 to deliver quality hearing care directly to your home. By operating outside traditional offices, we help patients with mobility or health issues avoid transportation challenges. Lower overhead costs also allow us to offer savings to our clients.

How much does this cost and what should I expect?

The in-home evaluation and consultation costs $225 and lasts up to 90 minutes. Please provide a quiet space with a table and chairs. I bring all necessary equipment to conduct the testing, review your history and expectations, check your ears, guide you through each step, and discuss your results and recommendations.

Are you able to remove wax from my ears?

In most cases, I can safely and effectively remove earwax. However, there are occasional cases in which removal may not be possible, and appropriate recommendations will be made.

Can you work with my existing hearing aids?

My first goal is always to work with your existing hearing aids when possible. However, if they are a private-label brand or too old or damaged, I may not be able to program or repair them. In those cases, newer technology might be needed for better hearing.

How do you know if my hearing aids are working properly?

Real-ear measurements use a small probe microphone inserted in your ear to check if your hearing aids deliver the right amplification at every frequency. This process ensures your devices are adjusted to prescribed levels based on your specific hearing loss, providing optimal sound quality.

Does Medicare cover hearing aids?

No. Medicare guidelines specifically state that “hearing aids or examination for the purpose of prescribing, fitting, or changing hearing aids are excluded from coverage.” Some Medicare Advantage Plans (Part C) offer extra benefits that Original Medicare doesn’t cover – like vision, hearing, or dental. Most of these plans, however, are a “discount plan” where you are still paying a significant amount of money out of pocket, and you must go to an in-network provider.

Do you take my insurance?

No, I am not currently part of any insurance networks. Due to numerous restrictions and lowered reimbursement rates from most plans, it is no longer possible for me to deliver the level of care my patients require and deserve.

How much do hearing aids cost?

Hearing aids typically range in price from approximately $2,400 per pair to about $5,500 per pair*. While most individuals require two hearing aids, your specific needs will be determined through an individual assessment.

*Prices subject to change

What if I don’t like the hearing aids?

All hearing aid purchases include a 30-day trial. You may exchange or return them during this period, though returns incur a small non-refundable fee.

What about OTC hearing aids?

Over-the-counter hearing aids are for adults with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss. After your hearing evaluation, we can discuss if they’re right for you. If not, or if they don’t work well, we have other options to fit your needs.
